Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-biofouling properties of various chemicals and active oxygen produced by cold plasma technology in order to introduce as alternative reagents for the current disinfectants in aquaculture industy and the other chlorination systems. The results of acute toxicity (LD۱۰۰) tests of sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide and cold plasma activate oxygen on a phytoplankton Tetraselmis chuii, zooplancton Artemia franciscana, barnacle Amphibalanus amphitrite and Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp has shown that the anti biofouling properties of these materials is as follows: Cold plasma Active oxygen> chlorine dioxide> Calcium hypochlorite> sodium hypochlorite On The basis of the results, the cold plasma active oxygen is recommended as the first priority for replacement with sodium hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide is as the second option for replacement as disinfectant agent. Acute toxicity tests with ۱ and ۵ ppm of sodium hypochlorite showed no mortality on phyto and zoo planktons, barnacle, and shrimp after ۱۴۴ hours. The minimum of effective dose of sodium hypochlorite which can cause the loss of Amphibalanus amphitrite, was ۱۰ ppm.
