Abstract:

The aim of the study was to evaluate the predominance of vitamins in wild Penaeus species ((P. semisulcatus, P. indicus, P. monodon and Metapenaeus monoceros) and culture Penaeus species (P. vannamei). The samples were analysed by the Shimadzu prominence-i, the chromatographic detection was performed with Phenomenex Luna C۱۸ column۱۰۰ Ao (۵ mm, ۲۵۰ x ۴.۶ mm) The mobile phase was composed of a mixture of ۰.۰۵M KH۲PO۴ buffer: methanol (۷۰:۳۰, v/v), isocratic flow of ۱.۰ ml/min. The UV detector was operated at ۲۶۵ & ۲۱۰ nm. The quantification of vitamin content was calculated with the reference vitamins. When compared the content of vitamins in Penaeus sp., Vitamin D was rich in all the Penaeus species, P. indicus shows ۱۱۵.۷۸ I. U as the maximum level followed by P. semisulcatus (۱۱۳.۵۶ I. U). The maximum level of Vitamin B۱۲ (۱.۹۳ µg) and Niacin (۳.۶۲ mg) was detected in the Metapenaeus monoceros. The trace amount of Vitamin B۶ was found in the tested samples.Wild and Cultured shrimp provided the sufficient quantity of Vitamin D, B۱۲ and B۳ for the human diet as per Recommended Dietary Intake.
