Abstract:
Due to energy shortage and global warming, issues of energy saving have becomemore important. To increase the energy efficiency and reduce the fuel consumption, waste heat recovery is a significant method for energy saving. The organic Rankinecycle (ORC) has great potential to recover the waste heat from the core jet exhaustof a turbofan engine and use it to produce power. The results of the analyzes showthat the output power of the double-shaft turbofan engine is ۱۲۵۴۸ kW while thepower produced by the ORC cycle is ۶۳۲.۴۱ kW. The energy efficiency and exergyof the proposed system are ۴۳.۵۵% and ۸۷.۰۹%, respectively. Also, the exergydestruction rate of the whole system is ۱۱۲۵۰۰ kW. The highest amount of exergydestruction occurs in the low-pressure compressor, fan and mixer, respectively, andspecial attention should be paid to these components. As the inlet temperature ofthe high-pressure turbine of the turbofan engine increases, the energy and exergyefficiency decrease while the amount of exergy destruction increases.
