Abstract:
Listening skill is considered as one of the most important language skills and individuals require to develop, particularly, in English as Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. The current study was an attempt to investigate the effect of listening comprehension on Iranian EFL vocabulary learning. To this end, a quasi-experimental design with a pretest and posttest was designed. The participants included ۸۵ out of ۱۰۰ EFL learners selected through convenient sampling and homogenized using Key English Test (KET). The researcher developed a reliable form of Vocabulary Knowledge Scale (VKS) used as pretest and posttest. The experimental group was taught via listening tasks as the treatment. In contrast, the control group was received traditional method of teaching English vocabulary. The obtained results were analyzed via Spearman correlation. The results indicated that doing listening tasks was considered a significant, yet weak contributor of the vocabulary development among language learners. Finally, the theoretical and pedagogical implications of the findings are presented
