COVID-۱۹: Current Status and Necessary Measures for Prevention of Future Outbreaks

This manuscript aims to provide an update on thecurrent status of COVID-۱۹ worldwide and the necessarymeasures to be taken to prevent an increase in the numberof cases in the future. As we already know, COVID-۱۹ isan infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratorysyndrome coronavirus ۲ (SARS-CoV-۲), which was firstidentified in December ۲۰۱۹ in Wuhan, China. Sincethen, the virus has spread globally, causing a pandemicthat has affected millions of people.As of July ۳۰, ۲۰۲۳, over ۴۹۰ million confirmed casesand more than ۶.۱ million deaths (a case fatality rate of۱.۲۴%) have been recorded worldwide. On May ۵, ۲۰۲۳,the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an endto COVID-۱۹ as a global public health emergency. Despiteefforts to control the spread of the virus, significantchallenges still need to be addressed. A range of measuresshould be implemented to prevent further increases innew cases of COVID-۱۹, mortality, and economic, social,and mental-psychological problems. Vaccination is themost effective way to prevent severe disease and deathfrom COVID-۱۹, and it is crucial to increase vaccinecoverage worldwide. Countries successfully controllingthe pandemic have implemented comprehensivevaccination programs, including outreach to underservedcommunities.
