Abstract:
Introduction: Stuttering is one of the speech disorders that put a lot of stress on a child, and this disorder and its related problems affect the mothers of these children so much that their psychological health is affected and their psychological capability is necessary.
Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the quality of life therapy with the treatment of acceptance and commitment to psychological capital and forgiveness among mothers of children aged ۷ to ۱۱ years with stuttering.
Method: The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test, post-test and ۴۵-day follow-up. The statistical population included all mothers with children with stuttering in ۱۴۰۰-۹۹. The statistical sample consisted of ۶۰ mothers of children with stuttering who were selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. All three groups were tested by research tools, which were: Psychological Capital Scale (Lutans et al., ۲۰۰۴) and the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (Thompson et al., ۲۰۰۵). The collected data were analyzed at two levels of descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (analysis of variance with repeated measures). Calculations were performed with the help of social science statistical package version ۲۳ and SPSS software.
Results: The results of statistical analysis showed that both methods were effective in improving the dependent variables but the treatment method of acceptance and commitment was more effective than quality of life therapy (p<۰.۰۱) and this pattern continued ۴۵ days after training (P=۰/۰۱).
Conclusion: It seems that the two methods of quality of life therapy and acceptance and commitment are suitable methods for psychological rehabilitation of mothers of children with stuttering.
