Investigation on Simulation of Methane Thermal Conversion and its Effective Factors in Syngas abstract

Methane thermal conversion to synthesis gas (Syngas) can produce fuels and chemicals while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This study simulated methane conversion in a tubular reactor using COMSOL Multiphysics. The kinetics parameters were optimized to fit experimental data using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Results showed that the methane conversion rate is susceptible to temperatures above 1145°C. The optimized kinetics parameters provided reasonable agreement with the experiments. The modeling and optimization enabled an improved understanding of the kinetics of methane thermal conversion. The model can guide further studies on optimizing methane conversion processes and developing durable catalysts.
