Abstract:
Development and its dimensions are some of the topics addressed by political geographersmore or less. The cornerstones of development in political geography, from the nationalperspective are decentralization and transferring the responsibilities of the national governmentto local governments in provinces and states to actualize development by local institutions. Inrecent years, political geographers have also addressed the international dimension of thedevelopment and non-development of the countries caused by the international dimension. The purpose of this research is to study the views and opinions of political geographersabout development and its dimensions and an analytical–descriptive research method was used.National and international authoritative sources and texts on development were used from theperspectives of political geographers. The findings of the study show that national, local, andinternational development influenced by theories of modernization and social sciencedependency have been the main topics of much concern to political geographers. Sincedevelopment and its forms alter the territorial, social, and economic environment of countriesand their inner regions, it is very necessary to study development from political geographyperspectives. It is imperative today for the central government to delegate the realization ofdevelopment, especially sustainable development, to local governments and to play the role ofpolicymaker, provider of strategies, and supervisor in the development of the political geographyof the countries.
