Abstract:

Introduction: Chronic diseases and their treatments have a negative effect on various physical, psychological and social aspects of the quality of life of the elderly. Lupus is one of the chronic and autoimmune diseases that has created many challenges regarding the mental health and quality of life of the affected elderly all over the world. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between spiritual health and the quality of life of the elderly with lupus.Material and Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, ۲۱ patients with lupus were selected and included in the study by a convenient sampling method from the Association of Special Diseases in Hormozgan province in ۲۰۱۹. Data were collected by self-report method. The tools used included a demographic profile form, a shortened form of the World Health Organization questionnaire for quality of life, a ۲۸-question general health questionnaire, and a spiritual health questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS version ۱۹ statistical software and using t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson's correlation coefficient at a significant level.Result: The results of this study showed that the average overall quality of life score of lupus patients was ۵۷.۱۰ ± ۷.۶۲.physical, quality of life, ۵.۳ ± ۶.۱۷, mental dimension, ۱.۲ ± ۷.۱۷, spiritual health dimension, ۹.۳ ± ۸.۶۷, and total spiritual health It was ۸.۱۱ ± ۳.۸۷. A direct relationship was observed between the dimension of spiritual health with the overall quality of life score and the physical and mental dimensions of quality of life...Conclusion: Considering that lupus disease is a multifaceted problem and causes many damages to the elderly and affects their quality of life, it is possible to improve the quality of life of patients by improving the existential dimension of spiritual health. Therefore, it is recommended to pay attention to the spiritual dimensions of the elderly with lupus, along with the physical, psychological and social dimensions of the patients, in order to implement nursing care.
