Abstract:

Dear Editor, A Paper with the title  "Compliance of operating room sterilization procedures with valid scientific guidelines" was published by Dr. Batoolsadat Sajadinejad et al (۱). in, Vol ۹-Issue ۴.۲۰۲۱. This study, which is a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study, aims to investigate the compatibility of current sterilization procedures of operating room environment and instruments (OR) with valid scientific standards in Vali-Asr Hospital, Birjand. The study results suggest that the quality of infection control and sterilization in the ORs of Vali-Asar Hospital, Birjand is not in accordance with the methods recommended by reasonable scientific standards and guidelines. With thanks and respect to the dear authors, some more points from the statistical point of view should be mentioned: Regarding the sample size, ۵۰ questionnaires are mentioned only in the findings section of the abstract, and it is not clear from the text on which statistical formula and source this figure is based. In the Materials and Methods, the content validity of the questionnaire is mentioned, but the text does not indicate how the content validity index and its numerical value were calculated. In the last sentence of Materials and Methods, there are two points. The first issue is that it is not clear to the reader that the reason for choosing the non-parametric tests is the non-normality of the data; otherwise, alternative parametric tests should have been used. The second problem is that the p-value should not be expressed as a percentage. The results section mentioned that "most of the questionnaires were related to gynecological OR and in the morning shift." This problem could be due to the lack of proper randomization, which leads to a bias in the study results. Finally, Table ۲ incorrectly reports the results of the Kruskal-Wallis test when the result of the Mann-Whitney test should have been reported.
