Abstract:

Combining cycles in power generation systems is crucial for maximizing energy efficiency and minimizing waste heat. This approach permits the recovery of thermal energy, resulting in increased electric power production. By harnessing the waste energy, thermal systems contribute to sustainable and cost-effective power generation. In the present study, a novel integration of recompression supercritical CO۲ cycle and ammonia-water cycle is proposed and comprehensively investigated from energy and exergy viewpoints. According to the case study results, under the basic operating conditions of the proposed system, the energy efficiency of the entire plant is calculated as ۴۲.۱۴%, which is ۵.۸۵% higher than the recompression supercritical CO۲ cycle. The results of the parametric study reveal that by increasing the supercritical CO۲ compression ratio, the energy and exergy efficiencies and the net generated electric power increase and then decrease. Moreover, the total exergy destruction rate of the entire plant increases by increasing the main compressor inlet temperature. Furthermore, the efficiencies of the power generation system increase by increasing the supercritical CO۲ cycle’s turbine inlet temperature.
