Abstract:
Touristic sites and all the tourists they attract are a great way for a country to make money; thus, promotional brochures are used to appeal to more visitors. When designing brochures, it is a good idea to draw inspirations from already existing ones, even those from other cultures. This descriptive study aimed at studying different features of tourism brochures in English and Persian. To this end, De Beaugrande and Dressler's category of basic textual features was adopted as the first theoretical framework. Through criterion sampling, the researchers delimited the analysis to texts that served as brief introductions to historical sites. They chose three English brochures and three Persian ones. The researchers assumed that there should be numerous differences between these languages (English and Persian) concerning tourism brochures. On the contrary to expectations, similarities were observed a lot more frequently than substantial differences, so tourism brochures in English and Persian have much more in common.
