Variations of PM2.5 and Health Risk Assessment in Mashhad City during 2010-2018 abstract

Introduction: Air pollution is a major environmental risk factor affecting human health in both developed and developing countries. The aim of this study was survey the temporal variations of PM 2.5 and estimating its health effects in Mashhad City during 2010-2018.                                                                               Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Mashhad city residents. The data of PM2.5 concentrations were collected during the years 2008-2019. Data was analyzed by Excel and Air Q software. Relative was calculated by using the formula. Results: The result shows that higher concentration of PM 2.5 related to 2010. In addition, the lowest concentration of PM 2.5 particles was observed at 2015. The results of analysis showed that with increasing of each 10 µg/m3 PM 2.5 concentrations the value of relative risk for total death 10.47 percent increased. Moreover, according to AQI index result, 2010 is in the worst condition of PM2.5 particles concentration in Mashhad city. Conclusion: Overall, long-term exposure to ambient PM 2.5 contributed substantially to mortality in Mashhad megacity. Air pollution can be a modifiable risk factor. Appropriate sustainable control policies are recommended to protect public health.
