Phytochemical Measurements and Anti Microbial Evaluation of Neem Seed Extract abstract
Plants produce an extensive range of phytochemical components which are secondary metabolites. Phytochemicals have the ability to act as antioxidants by preventing cell damages which is usually caused by free radicals such as those associated with heart disease and cancer. Neem seed have high potential of phytochemicals, which uses as traditional medicinal purpose. The antimicrobial activities of Neem seed crude bioactive extracted with distilled water examined. Evaluating Neem seed bioactive extract phytochemical was the objective of this study. Neem seed bioactive components were Examined by the means of agar well diffusion method. Tannins, Quinones and phenols were the highest phytochemical in Neem seed bioactive extract, Anthocyanin, Terpenoids, Saponins and Glycosides were in medium levels and while Alkaloids and Flavonoids were in low level concentration. At a lowest concentration of bioactive (10mg/mL), Bacillus subtilis (G+) was the best controllable compared to other. The optimum concentration for selected pathogenic species was 55mg/mL and at this concentration, Salmonella typhimurium (G-) was highly controllable which 41mm control diameter. Staphylococcus aureus (G+), Bacillus subtilis (G+), and Escherichia coli (G-) were 40mm, 38mm and 34mm control in diameter respectively.
