Abstract:
Starting form the averaged equations of motion that govern the turbulent two- phase flows and using the mean Clausius-Duhem inequality, thermodynamically consistent rate-dependent expressions for the phasic stress tensors, heat and fluc- tuation energy flux vectors are developed. Material parameters of the model are evaluated from the limiting conditions of rapid flow of dry granular materials and single phase turbulent fluid flow. Results for the special case of simple shear flow are compared with the available experimental data and discussed. Extension of the thermodynamical formulation for deriving phasic stress transport model equations is also described.
