Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of this study was and to investigate the relationship between personality traits, social supports, and Motivation to Change and Motivation for Treatment in people with diagnosed Substance use disorder. Methods: The study sample consisted of ۱۲۷ persons with diagnosed Substance use disorder. The preparation for change and Motivation to Change and Motivation for Treatment scale by Miller and Tonigan, Neo questionnaire of personality traits by McCray et al, and social support scale by Sherborn et al, are used as a research instrument. Results: The result show that a positive and significant relationship between the personality different traits (Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness) and the motivation to change and motivation for treatment. However, there is a negative and significant relationship between the personality traits of neuroticism and the motivation to change and motivation for treatment. Also the result show that a positive and significant relationship between the different dimension's social support (tangible support, emotional support, communication, positive social interaction) and the motivation to change and motivation for treatment. Conclusion: It can be said that recognition of the effective factors on the motivation to change and motivation for treatment way for decreasing destructive behaviors such as drug addiction.
