Abstract:
This research aimed to investigate the impact of compassion-focused therapy on the symptoms of social anxiety in adolescent girls with social anxiety disorder. The target population of this study included all adolescent girls aged ۱۴ to ۱۸ in Isfahan, Iran in ۲۰۱۷. Forty girls were selected purposively and randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group. The therapeutic intervention was conducted for ۸ sessions for the experimental group, while the control group received no training. The research instruments used in this study were the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) and a researcher-developed sociodemographic questionnaire, which were completed in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up (۳ months later). The obtained data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The results of this study showed significant differences between the experimental and control group in the post-test and follow-up stages. Therefore, it can be concluded that the therapeutic intervention is effective in reducing social anxiety in adolescent girls with social anxiety disorder compared to the control group.
