A study of Simple and Multiple Relationship of Anger, Shame, Behavioral Inhibition, Shyness and Depression with Social Anxiety amongst a Sample of Iranian Students with Regard to Gender

Abstract:

The present research investigated the simple and multiple relationships of anger, shame, behavioral inhibition, shyness and depression with social anxiety, in Tehran Shahed University with regard to gender. The sample of this research included ۵۸۱ (male=۲۴۱, female=۳۳۵) students of Shahed University who were selected through multi- stage random sampling method. Participated completed Measures of Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), Test of Self-Conscious Affect-۳ (TOSKA-۳), Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS), Revised Cheek and Buss Scale (RCBS), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-۲۱ (DASS-۲۱) and the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-۲ (Staxi-۲). Obtained data by Descriptive Statistics, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and Multi-Variable Correlation Coefficient, were analyzed. This study suggests that significantly and positively correlated have among social anxiety with shame, behavioral inhibition, shyness, depression, anger. Also, the studied variable could have explained social anxiety, but the type of the variable in male and female were differed. Although the part of obtained results align the other findings of research, though, the rest of the results should be encountered carefully, and in fact, more intercultural research work may help to make correct and accurate the findings.
