Abstract:

The present research aimed to study the effect of positive psychology training on depression and sleep quality in kidney transplant patients. To this, a semi-experimental pre-test/post-test design with a control group was employed. Thirty kidney transplant patients, aged between ۲۰ and ۶۰ years, hospitalized in Imam Ali (AS) Hospital, were randomly assigned to the intervention (۱۵ participants) and control (۱۵ participants) groups. After administering the pretests to both groups, the intervention group received eight sessions of ۱.۵ hours of positive psychology training, followed by a one-month follow-up period. The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used to collect data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for data analysis. The results of the covariance analysis indicated that the mean scores of depressions and sleep quality in the intervention group significantly decreased compared to the control group in the post-test phase (p< ۰.۰۰۱). The significant effectiveness of this intervention on the intervention group was also maintained during the follow-up phase. Therefore, positive psychology training can have significant positive effects on reducing depression and improving sleep quality in kidney transplant patients.
