Comparison of Effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy Techniques and Therapy based on Acceptance and Commitment on Social Anxiety of Exceptional Adolescents in Shiraz City

Background and Purpose: Social anxiety is one of the common problems among adolescents, especially exceptional adolescents, which has a great impact on their social development. Dialectical behavior therapy and therapy based on acceptance and commitment have been investigated in a wide range of mental problems and disorders. The purpose of this research is to compare the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy and therapy based on acceptance and commitment on the social anxiety of exceptional adolescents in Shiraz city. Methodology: The method of this research is semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design along with a control group. The statistical population of this research includes exceptional adolescents aged ۱۲ to ۱۸ years old in Shiraz city who were kept in the welfare centers of District ۱ in June ۲۰۲۱. The number of samples was ۶۰ people who were selected by available sampling method and randomly divided into two experimental groups and one control group (۲۰ people). Beck social anxiety questionnaire was used as pre-test-post-test. The members of the dialectical behavior therapy group and the members of the therapy group based on acceptance and commitment were treated separately in ۱۲ sessions for ۲ months. The variance method was used to analyze the data. Results: The test results and scores showed that both treatment methods are responsive, but the treatment based on acceptance and commitment has a more positive and significant effect than dialectical behavior therapy on social anxiety.
