Abstract:

Background: Personality type describes the configuration of personality traits which represents an individual. We have studied the association between personality type and Premenstrual syndrome in young women. Material and methods: This research is based on the method of collecting information in the field of correlational research. In order to analyze the data of this research, descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used through SPSS version ۱۶ software and t-test. Personality type was determined using the Personality Type A and B Inventory questionnaire and the severity of PMS symptoms was determined using PSST (Premenstrual Syndrome Screening Tool). Results: Of ۱۷۹ unmarried female students in the research, ۶۹ of them (۳۸.۶%) have personality type A and ۱۱۰ of them (۶۱.۴%) have personality type B. The t-test to compare the rate of PMS in two personality types A and B is not significant (P<۰.۵), which means that the women of two personality types A and B have not shown a statistically significant difference in the severity of PMS symptoms and the research hypothesis is rejected. Conclusions: Personality type (A and B) is not related to menstrual pattern or complications related to menstruation.
