Abstract:

Background: Transformational leadership as a common style among managers play a key role in solving the organizational behavioral problems such as organizational silence. The relationship between this leadership style and organizational silence highlights the effectiveness of transformational leadership on this problem. The aim of present study is determining how the employees' performance is affected by the leaders' behaviors and why they choose to remain silent or to speak up. In fact, the purpose of this study is to fill the gaps on these variables and examine the effect of transformational leadership and its components including intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, idealized influence and individual consideration on organizational silence. Methods: the sample of this study was drawn from a population of ۳۸۱ Indian and ۴۵۷ Iranian nation, both including teaching and non-teaching staffs of universities in Iran and India. Using Krejcie & Morgan table, ۱۸۰ individuals were selected as Indian and ۲۱۰ as Iranian sample by random sampling. The required data was gathered through the "Bass and Avolio (۲۰۰۰) questionnaire for transformational leadership" and "organizational silence questionnaire (Vakola and Bouradas, ۲۰۰۵)". In order to explore the research hypotheses, correlation, path analysis, regression and structural Equation modeling (SEM) - which is a multivariable correlation method – were used. Results: The result indicated, "There is a significant correlation between transformational leadership factors with organizational silence. Conclusions: according to the results, transformational leadership style can lead to decreased organizational silence.
