Abstract:

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of childhood traumas in the tendency to addiction in young people. This study was conducted cross-sectionally among the youth of Chabahar between ۲۰ and ۳۰ years old. Data collection was done through the distribution of questionnaires by targeted sampling method in public places of Chabahar city during the months of July to September ۲۰۲۳. A total of ۱۱۶ people were selected as the research sample. The research tools were Bernstein et al.'s childhood trauma questionnaire (۲۰۰۳) and Wade and Boucher's (۱۹۹۲) addiction tendency scale, and the data were analyzed through Pearson's correlation test and multivariate regression. According to the obtained results, there was a direct and meaningful relationship between all the components of childhood injuries including (emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect) with the tendency to addiction, and emotional and physical neglect had the largest share. They were prone to addiction in prediction. From the findings, it can be concluded that the experience of injury in childhood is strongly related to the tendency to addiction in adulthood.
