The role of games and group work in learning English

The current paper reviews how games and group work contribute to effective English language learning. Language acquisition is a multidimensional process that demands active involvement and application. The traditional modes of instruction often turn out to be insufficient to actively involve the learners in developing communicative skills. However, the use of games and group work activities in language classrooms has led to positive outcomes in motivation, interaction, and involvement, as well as improved language proficiency. In fact, this paper outlines the theoretical underpinnings of games and group work incorporated into English language learning and presents some of the advantages and practical implications of utilizing such an approach for teaching English as a foreign language.
