Abstract:

According to the lack of a gold standard for definition of apoptosis, we conducted a pilot analysis to propose anew definition for apoptosis based on a previous gene expression data. A gene expression data of a vitrificationthawing induced model of apoptosis conducted on ten mice ovaries was used. Half of the samples had beentreated with selenium. P۵۳, Fas, Bax and Bcl۲ were considered as apoptosis related genes. Their +ΔCTs werereported. An apoptosis scoring system was designed based on regression analysis. In multiple regression of thegenes, the only significant association was for Bcl۲ expression for prediction of apoptosis. Then a model wasdesigned consisting of Bcl۲ and some interactions that the calculated amount of its formula was considered asthe scoring system (R۲ = ۰.۹۸۹, P (>F) <۰.۰۰۱, Root mean square deviation = ۰.۰۸۲). Bax/Bcl۲ ratio showed anacceptable goodness of fit for prediction of this score (R۲ = ۰.۸۴۵, P (>F) <۰.۰۰۱, root mean square deviation =۰.۲۱۹). No conclusive result was found for factor analysis. The present study used a simple approach to proposestatistical models for apoptosis. A comprehensive criterion should be designed apoptosis and other biologicalsystems to be considered as a gold standard.
