Nonlinear Regression Analysis of TBM Rate of Penetration abstract

The need of human being to surface and underground constructions has diverted earth crust. Tunnel boring machines (TBM) on the huge cutting tools specially made to excavate underground roadways and tunnel in various types of rock. The rate of penetration of these machines into different rock materials is a very important parameter to be analyzed experimentally or numerically. In this paper, the effect of various geomechanical parameters of rock mass i.e. unconfined compressive strength (UCS); RQD and distance between planes of weakness on the rate of penetration (ROP) have been analyzed by a nonlinear regression method. The result of ROP obtained by various predicting methods, are compared with each other and some new nonlinear formulations are obtained where the relative coefficient for ROP is given by considering various regression methods. It is concluded that the proposed method gives very accurate result
