Drought responsive Peroxidase and dry matter yield of Sorghum as affected by biochar, and alternate furrow irrigation abstract

The present experiment designed and conducted to investigate the impact of biochar and planting arrangement on physiological characteristics of forage sorghum as a high tolerant crop to water deficit under water-saving irrigation regimes via assessing physiological biomarkers. Irrigation regimes planned in 3 levels; Conventional full furrow [I0], fixed furrow [I1] and Alternate furrow [I2] planting arrangement organized in 2 levels; Single Row and Twin Row. Soil amendment with Biochar arranged in 3 levels; Control (non-application), 6 ton/ha, and 12 ton/ha. Results showed that interaction between year and planting arrangement was significant on Peroxidase and dry matter yield. The peroxidase increased while plants received low level of irrigation, but the positive effect of changing the planting arrangement and application of biochar could partially neutralize this increase.
