Investigation of the breeding of migratory turtle dove in the Karkheh national park of Iran abstract

A few studies have been done on migratory birds, especially turtle dove and its breeding in Iran. The present study aims to investigate of the effect of land use change on breeding of turtle dove in the Dez and Karkheh national park of Iran. Considering the extent of areas and the accessibility of nests, the areas divided into several parts and according to the importance of the issue in each area and based on the information which previously provided about the area, it was selected. The results obtained from this study, showed 75% reduction in the number of chicks and 15% flight success within the fence-limited area. The findings for the out of the fence-limited area were 83% reduction of the total number of the chicks in the area and 18.5% total flight success of the chicks in 2019 compared with 2012 year. The results also demonstrated that there is a significant difference in success of the chicks between in and out of the fence-limited area and the level of success of the chicks was higher in fence-limited area in both studied years due to protected conditions.
