Enhancing the Appreciation of Skyline Aesthetics in Relation to Architectural Heritage: Case Study of Babaghodrat caravanserai in Iran abstract

Having interrelated with the contextual environment, built heritages encountered a lack of privacy in their skylines. Before applying installations in order to elevate the visual values, It is necessary to have a comprehensive understating of cultural and visual elements of the surrounding heritage neighborhood. This research explores how architectural intervention, such as reversible extensions can boost the visual connection between audiences and heritage. A particular case study has been selected which is Babaghodrat Caravanserai (Mashhad, Iran). During the survey, 55 individuals, including experts and students, were asked to identify the best possible approach with their reasons behind their choice among the three presented approaches for enriching the visual contents of heritage. The results showed that installation extensions enhanced the identity of the project and its visual contents. Furthermore, spatial comprehensibility in the project helped audiences create a strong connection with the heritage itself.
