Abstract:
In this paper, the flexural vibration of Timoshenko beam is investigated using hybrid modeling. Firstly,the exact solution of Timoshenko beam equation is presented using new analytical method. Combinedwith the equations of lumped elements, the whole beam model is prepared as a series of interconnecteddistributed and lumped elements. The natural frequencies of a uniform beam with various boundaryconditions obtained by the distributed lumped modeling technique (DLMT) are compared and verifiedwith the results of other techniques. The method is then employed for computing the frequencies of awaterjet propulsion system using Timoshenko beam theory. The results are compared and verified withFEM frequencies and mode shapes obtained by KissSoft software. It is shown that while the presentedmethod can be easily applied to the complicated systems, it also provides highly accurate results
