Abstract:

The reliable operation of overhead crane systems depends on a consistent power supply, withvoltage profile maintenance being crucial for sustained productivity. This paper addresseschallenges related to voltage profiles in the power supply systems of overhead cranes in steelmanufacturing plants, introducing a comprehensive methodology for optimal capacitorplacement and sizing. The unique characteristics of overhead crane systems in steelmaking,involving movable loads, distinguish them from typical systems studied in previous research.The proposed methodology includes modeling the power system components, such as powercables, power rail, and overhead cranes, using impedance and load factor considerations. Theobjective function aims to enhance the voltage profile by maximizing the minimum per-unitsupply voltage for different crane positions, with optimization variables for capacitorplacement and sizing. The optimization process utilizes the Genetic Algorithm to solved thenumerical optimization problem and ETAP software validates the optimization results
