Abstract:

This study aims to employ a combustion-synthesized Bi۲O۳-KBi۶O۹Br nanophotocatalyst, utilizing urea as the fuel source, for the treatment of synthesized wastewater samples contaminated with tetracycline-HCl antibiotics. Characterization of the nanophotocatalyst was carried out using the XRD and FESEM analyses, confirming the formation of desired phases and demonstrating its morphology. Subsequently, the effectiveness of the prepared nanophotocatalyst was evaluated under simulated solar light to degrade tetracycline-HCl antibiotics with a target concentration of ۷۰ mg/L. The results revealed an efficiency rate of ۶۷.۹۳% after ۲۱۰ min of photocatalysis using one g/L of Bi۲O۳-KBi۶O۹Br nanophotocatalyst. This study highlights the potential application of Bi۲O۳-KBi۶O۹Br nanophotocatalyst as a promising solution for treating wastewater contaminated with tetracycline-HCl antibiotics, emphasizing the significance of exploring alternative water treatment methods to the low-efficiency traditional water treatment methods. Further research is necessary to explore the long-term stability and effectiveness of the synthesized nanophotocatalyst in addressing different types of pollutants in aqueous environments.
