A High Speed Current-Mode Analog to Digital Pipeline Converter with 1.5 bit/stage and Digital Correction for Underwater Data Acquisition System abstract

In this paper a high speed 8 bit analog to digital converter is designed using current mode technique (IADC) and pipeline structure with 0.18 m μ CMOS technology. The main application of this IADC scheme is in advanced underwater sonar data acquisition system that in some cases needs to be sampled about 400 channels. Hspice Simulation with BSIM3v3 model shows that the designed IADC can achieve 8-bit resolution with sampling rate of up to 40 MS/s with an input signal frequency of 2.4 MHz. With the usage of a digital correction circuit, the converter achieved a peak SNDR of 47.6 dB, maximum DNL of 0.25 LSB, maximum INL of 0.95 LSB. Power consumption of 56 mW is recorded using a single 3V power supply.
