Abstract:

Today, environmental pollution is a serious problem for humanity, the main root of which is technological progress. Increasing use of electricity, water, gas, and chemicals is needed on the one hand to facilitate human life and progress, and on the other hand, it leads to environmental pollution. Therefore, it is very important to make an all-out effort to prevent the creation and spread of environmental pollution. One of the available solutions is optimal energy consumption. By reducing energy consumption, the need for the production of energy is reduced, and the related pollution will also be reduced. Smart cities can be considered potential solutions to save energy. In smart cities, IoT-based systems are employed to control many different issues, such as pollution, traffic control, weather, lighting, gas, and water leakage monitoring, to provide comfort and convenience for city residents while optimizing energy consumption. To carry out this study, intelligent road lighting was investigated and evaluated to manage energy consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. A smart urban road lighting system was proposed that uses Internet of Things technology and dynamic control methods for optimization. The goal is to provide lighting (energy) based on demand. The evaluation of the system was performed using real data and under conditions of free-flow traffic. The proposed method showed an average energy saving of ۸۳.۲% compared with the common lighting system. The results show that the proposed method is effective in reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
