Abstract:

Cultivation of drought-resistant medicinal plants is increasingly recognized as a vital area of research and practice, especially in water-scarce regions. This brief review examines the challenges and opportunities associated with cultivating medicinal plants in dry conditions, focusing on adaptive mechanisms, cultivation techniques, and potential applications. In arid and semi-arid regions, water scarcity significantly limits agricultural productivity, including the cultivation of medicinal plants. The review discusses cultivation techniques and agronomic practices that can enhance the resilience of medicinal plants to drought, including water-saving irrigation methods, soil amendments, and selection of tolerant cultivars. In conclusion, cultivation of drought-resistant medicinal plants presents both challenges and opportunities for sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. By using our understanding of plant adaptation mechanisms and implementing innovative cultivation practices, we can harness the potential of these resilient plant species to increase food security, reduce environmental degradation, and improve human well-being in water-stressed environments.
