The present study reports the application of micro-sized anthracite (ANTC) as a natural adsorbent for efficient removal of nitrobenzene (NB) 1, 3-dinitrbenzene (DNB) and 2, 4-dichloronitrobenzene (DCNB) from polluted water samples. Results indicated that the adsorption of NB, DNB and DCNB was rapid and the adsorption process reached a steady state after 3 min. The adsorption isotherms were well described by the Langmuir models. The NB, DNB and DCNB adsorption capability of the ANTC was investigated as a function of solution pH, amount of adsorbent, contact time, ionic strength and reusability. Experimental results show that the removal efficiency is independent of solution pH and ionic strength. The removal percentage and adsorbed amount of NB, DNB and DCNB were determined by HPLC measurement of the sample solution before and after the removing process. The loading capacity (0.78 mg g-1 for NB, 0.81 mg g-1 for DNB and 0.91 mg g-1 for DCNB) was determined to be 2.51 mg g-1 for the analytes mixture. This study showed that ANTC could be used as an efficient adsorbent material for simultaneous removal of NB, DNB and DCNB from aqueous solution.
