Abstract:

Many idioms and phrasal verbs offer the problem of unpredictability. This descriptive research was aimed to (۱) collect and compare the phrasal verbs utilized in an English philosophy book called Culture and Everyday Life by David Inglis (۲۰۰۵) and its Persian version named Farhang va Zendegi-ye Rouzmareh by Nazanin Mirzabeigi (۲۰۱۶) to determine the types of strategies applied by Persian translator for translating the phrasal verbs, according to Baker’s four strategies (۲) calculate the frequency and percentage of the collected data. The data were collected by observing the English philosophy book and its Persian version. After that, the collected data were analysed by identifying, categorizing and calculating the data. In conclusion, the dominant used strategy in the text was using an idiom of similar meaning and form with ۱۸۴ (۵۳.۶۴%) data and the least common strategy was translation by paraphrase with ۲۴ (۶.۹۹%).
