Hybrid AC/DC Overhead Transmission Lines: Challenges and Applications abstract

AC power is favored for its widespread use and easy voltage transformation, while DC power is preferred for its stability in point-to-point transmission and reduced losses. However, each system comes with inherent limitations. To overcome these challenges and enhance overall power transfer efficiency, the adoption of hybrid overhead lines (HOHL) has been proposed within modern power systems. By simultaneously utilizing AC and DC in a hybrid system, the strengths of both technologies can be harnessed while mitigating their respective weaknesses. This paper delves into the applications, challenges, and advancements surrounding hybrid overhead lines (OHLs), showcasing its potential as a cutting-edge solution to address the ever-growing demand for electricity in all over the world.
