Abstract:
Passive vibration control of rotating nonlinear beams is an important subject because it can help mitigate the harmful effects of vibration in various engineering fields such as industries, aerospace, etc. This study investigates the effect of various system parameters and nonlinearity on the vibrations of a nonlinear rotating beam under periodic external force. The nonlinear energy sink (NES) is connected to the tip of the beam to reduce vibrations. The Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the von Karman strain-displacement relations are used to model the nonlinear rotating beam. The equations of motion are derived using the Hamilton’s principle. The Complexification Averaging and the Runge Kutta methods are employed for analytical and numerical calculations, respectively. The result shows that by increasing the stiffness, the vibration amplitude decreases, and as the nonlinear coefficient increases, the curves show the hardening behavior. The hardening effect of the system caused by the nonlinearity of the beam reduces the vibration amplitude of the beam.
