Efficient synthesis of coumarins using ammonium ferric sulphate asa catalyst under solvent-free conditions

Ammonium ferric sulphate dodecahydrate was used as an efficient catalyst for thevon Pechman condensation reaction of phenol and -keto ester under solvent-free conditions.This method was compared with those of the reactions in the different solvents and catalysts. Themethodology presented offers significant improvements for the synthesis of coumarins withregard to yield of products, simplicity in operation and green aspects by avoiding toxicconventional catalysts and solvents.
