Abstract:

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to landfill leachate control for sustainable reservoir dam management. Landfills are extensively used for waste disposal globally, generating millions of tons of waste annually. While landfills offer a cost-effective waste management solution, inadequate solid waste management practices and the presence of harmful compounds in leachate pose significant risks to the environment. The contamination resulting from landfill leachate can spread across vast areas, affecting water sources and land. Reservoirs, being crucial sources of potable water and supporting diverse ecological functions, are particularly vulnerable to the pollution caused by landfill leachate. Therefore, understanding the impact of landfill leachate on reservoirs and implementing effective management strategies are of paramount importance. This study highlights the need for improved methodologies for managing solid waste and controlling leachate production, as well as the significance of comprehensive water quality monitoring and modeling techniques for assessing the repercussions of landfill leachate on reservoirs. The findings of this research contribute to the development of sustainable practices for landfill leachate control and reservoir dam management.
