Abstract:

The main purpose of this research is to identify and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of teaching English through movies with subtitles on listening skills. Also, the effect of teaching English through subtitled movies on students' listening skills has been studied. In the quantitative part, the statistical population is all English language learners of English language training centers in Gachsaran city, ۴۰ of them were purposefully replaced in two control groups (no intervention) and test (intervention) groups. For the test group, the movie was played with subtitles for one week. Data analysis was done in the quantitative part, using spss software and independent t-Student test. The results of theme analysis identified ۲۲ basic themes in the form of three organizing themes; organization of listening skill strategies, the organization of listening steps, the organization of listening components. Also, the results of the independent T-Student test showed that teaching English through movies with subtitles has a significant effect on students' listening skills.
