The Rolls-Royce Gas Turbine Compressor Blades (Avon Model) Failure Investigation Analysis abstract
The Gas Turbine Air Compressor is an axial flow compressor type and includes some stage of rotor and stator blades. The pressure after passing along rotor blades is carried up. The probability of damaging because of stresses due to air flow and rotation of compressor, fatigue, corrosion and foreign objects damage specially in rotor blades in high. Studied Rolls-Royce (Avon model) in this research has 17 stages of rotor and stator blades. 3 stages of rotor blades made of AA2618 aluminum alloy are focus of several accident. In this research, first, we provided 5 Aluminum blades belong to second stage and study about analysis of blades materials, mechanical properties of blades, fractographic test and coating test of blades.
