Tribological behaviour of laser-ablated graphene oxide in engine oil lubricant abstract
In this work, a high-purity graphite target has been ablated in deionized water using laser ablation to synthesize graphene oxide. By using the fundamental harmonic of an Nd: YAG laser at 532 nm wavelengths, this was achieved. A Raman spectrometer has been used to characterize the structure and phonon properties of graphene oxide. The chemical composition characteristics of the prepared sample were evaluated using an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer. Surface morphology analyses were observed by top view images from scanning electron microscopy which represent flake shapes with dimensions of about 1µm. The tribological behavior of the lubricating oil with and without graphene oxide addition was evaluated using a pin-on-disc tribometer. The results show that by adding GO to 5W-30 engine oil, the coefficient of friction was reduced. In addition, the anti-wear properties of GO as additives in the lubricating oil were enhanced.
