Abstract:

This paper presents an integrated multiphysicssimulation approach of piezoelectric micropumps.Micropumps and micro blowers are essential devices invarious cutting-edge industries like laboratoryequipment, medical devices, and fuel cells. Apiezoelectric micropump involves complex physicsincluding microfluidics, flow-structure interaction, electricity, and piezoelectric material. Hence, acomprehensive analysis of the interactions betweendifferent physical phenomena, would be essential forthe effective design and optimization of thesemicropumps.Prior studies on piezoelectric micropump were mainlyfocused on isolated physical aspects of these pumps, such as piezoelectric mechanics, fluid dynamics, electrical properties, and also fluid-structureInteractions. The present paper fills this gap byintegrating these aspects into a holistic simulation anddesign approach, introducing a new methodology formicropump analysis. Advanced simulation and designtools like COMSOL and SolidWorks were employed inaccordance. A brief review of piezoelectric materials, and an exploration of different types of micropumpsand their operating principles is discussed. Also, acomparison of various piezoelectric materials, including their properties and applications isinvestigated. Further, the paper discusses thesimulation process of the micropumps, usingCOMSOL software, and presents an in-depth analysisof the simulation results. This structured approachprovides a comprehensive understanding ofpiezoelectric micropumps, from theoreticalunderpinnings to practical design considerations
