Abstract:

Seasonality is a recognized challenge impacting all facets of the tourism industry, particularly in winter tourism destinations. This study investigates the causes of seasonality in sports tourism destinations within Ardabil Province, Iran. Due to the novelty of this research area and the lack of prior comprehensive studies, a qualitative approach was employed. The target population included experts in sports management, tourism and economics, cultural heritage and tourism officials, sports and youth administrators, provincial government representatives, municipal leaders, parliament members, and tourism agency managers in Ardabil Province. A combination of theoretical sampling methods was used to select participants. Data collection relied on in-depth qualitative interviews. Following ۲۱ interviews, thematic saturation was achieved. Data were systematically analyzed using thematic analysis software (NVivo ۱۲ Plus). The analysis yielded ۳۳ codes, subsequently categorized into six key themes. This research offers valuable insights and practical solutions for policymakers and tourism destination planners in Ardabil Province. By implementing these solutions, particularly during low-season periods, the province's tourism destinations can overcome seasonality and accelerate their development trajectory
