Measuring of Corona Discharge Inception Voltage to Determine Electric Field over the non-homogenous Electrodes in the Air insulation abstract

Some investigations on corona discharge were carried out using several inter-electrode distances and two values of high voltage electrode-point radii in order to determine electric field strength. The characteristics of pre-breakdown voltage and current between two electrodes in air insulation were determined, under 60 Hz ac high voltages. The methodology for these experiments is described and the results are discussed and used to establish mathematical and empirical models for predicting flashover on high voltage devices. The results confirm that there is good concordance between the electric fields obtained using the finite element method and those of experiments.
