Miniature Refractive Index Sensor Based on HybridMicroring Resonators abstract
In this paper, a new design of the hybrid ringresonator in two different patterns is proposed as an opticalsensor to detect analytes with different refractive indices. Inthe first pattern, a single hybrid micro-ring resonator iscoupled with a straight waveguide, and in the second pattern, the double hybrid micro-ring resonator is coupled from thetop and bottom sides with a straight waveguide. Bothstructures are simulated by the numerical method of twodimensionalFinite Difference Time Domain (FDTD).Simulation results show that the transmission spectrum ofboth proposed structures in the infrared wavelength range(1290 nm to 1312 nm) has a resonance dip that red-shifted bychanging the refractive index of the analyte inside the hybridring resonators. Sensitivity and figure of merit (FOM) for thestructure with single microring resonator are obtained as27.875 nm/RIU, and 3.625, respectively, and for the structurewith double microring resonators 41.25 nm/RIU, and 6.346,respectively. Features make this Absorber suitable for sensorapplications. In the future, it is possible to improve thesensitivity of the sensor by changing the dimensions of themicro-components of the ring resonators and the material ofthe structure.
