Behavioral determinants related to Seat belt use behavior on rural nondrivers: Use of Theory of Planned Behavior abstract

Background: The aim of present stud was to assess status of seatbelt use and predict seat beltuse behavior among non-drivers on rural roads based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB).Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted 452 non-drivers on rural residents ofHashtrood district in Iran during 2023. The data collection instrument was a researcher-madequestionnaire, the questionnaire focused on the constructs of the TPB to predict seat belt usebehavior. The linear regression analysis was used for fore prediction of seat belt use behavior. Results: The use of seatbelt among rural non-drivers in rural road was lower than urban roads.Result showed that 89.8% of rural non-drivers wear higher seat belt in outside the city comparedto inside the city. Attitude and subjective norms significantly predicted intention of seat beltwearing (P<0.001). The construct of perceived behavioral control did not have significant andpositive relationship with intention of seat belt wearing (P>0.05). Also, behavioral intentionand perceived behavioral control significantly predicted seat belt use behavior (P<0.001).Conclusions: The use of seat belt in rural road was lower than urban roads on non-drivers.Results indicated that construct of TPB predict seat belt use among rural non-drivers.
