Melanie Klein (1882-1960), one of the pioneering figures in psychoanalysis, is known for developingobject relations theory and its profound influence on child psychoanalysis. This articlecomprehensively reviews Klein’s personal and professional life, his key ideas, and his lastinginfluence on psychoanalysis. In addition, this article examines the criticisms and challenges that Kleinfaced and the cultural and social impact of his work. By focusing on the infant’s early relationshipswith caregivers and mental processes, Klein provided a deeper understanding of humanpsychological development. His object relations theory has had a significant impact, especially inchild psychoanalysis, and has helped develop new therapeutic techniques and improve existingmethods. However, Klein’s work has been challenging. Critics, especially Anna Freud, vigorouslyattacked his methods and theories, causing considerable controversy within the psychoanalyticcommunity.
